1. You’re the ultimate hyphenate: mother, wife, businesswoman…What is your secret to multitasking?
Prioritizing! I try to make lists at the beginning of each day and get things done in order of importance. My son and husband come first, and everything else just falls in line. I’ve also learned to stop being so hard on myself. There’s only 24hrs in a day so I’m ok with not getting everything done, as long as the most important people are taken care of.

2. What has been your biggest challenge that you have overcome in your career?
Learning to deal with constantly be told, “No.” In this industry we deal with a lot of no’s and I have learned to turn no’s into yes’s and not let them knock me off my block.

3. How did the idea of 5th & Mercer come about?
Well, I love clothes! I wanted to be able to blend high end fashion (5th Ave) with cool and edgy looks (Mercer). With my line you can see where the two worlds meet.

4. What is your favorite piece in your new collection 5th & Mercer?
Right now it’s the Fringe dress. It’s fun, flirty, and just makes you feel good.

5. What are you coveting this Fall 2014?
Right now I’m all bout hats. Fedoras, felt hats…I’m all about it! I’m also into colorful fall jackets. Everyone always gets black or grey, but I’m into bright colors to enhance the mood of the season.

6. What are you splurging on, and what are you saving in updating your fall closet?
I’m always trying to go thru my closet to make room for new things, so I’m constantly updating. I love to splurge on accessories; be it rings or gold hoops, they don’t have to be too expensive but any good piece you can have it accentuate an outfit is key. I’m currently saving for my staple winter coat. I’m not sure yet what kind it will be, but something that will take me through the fall and winter.

7. What is one item in your wardrobe you can’t live without?
I have a pair of Chanel Motorcycle boots that I can wear year round. They’re flat, but they can be worn in any season and still make my outfit look good.

8. In terms of beauty… what are your must haves from Motives cosmetics for this fall?
Definitely the current color selection of lip shine. Each shade gives you a great pop of color for any outfit. I also love the bronzer. Sometimes I mix with lotion to give my entire body a glow or just use it on my cheeks for a great shimmer.

9. What is your favorite gift you have ever received?
Any card, picture, or drawing from my son Kiyan. The other day he gave me a little keychain with an “L” on it, and it was the most amazing thing just because it was from him.

10. Where is your favorite place to escape to?
Last summer I had the privilege of going to South Africa for the first time. It was such a life-changing experience. There was so much culture, learning, and love. It was just beautiful. Also, being able to go on safari and seeing all the animals up close was just breathtaking. It will definitely be my new getaway spot.

11. What is on your playlist list?
I’m a huge fan of Hip Hop and RnB. I love everyone from Drake to Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj to my girls Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Rhianna, etc. I also really like 90s Hip Hop and RnB, so Mase, Total, Brandy, Monica.

12. What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate. Specifically a Nestle Crunch or Kit Kat bar, and I’m good to go!

13. Can you share with us a family fave dish?
I’m Hispanic so I love pasteles (here’s the recipe), which are a traditional dish in several Latin American countries. It is similar to a tamale, but more closely resembles a British pasty or an Italian calzone. As a tradition we usually only have them around the holidays, and they are delicious.

14. What is your essential for a romantic date night?
Great conversation and ambience. My husband and I like finding new restaurants, or going to see a great movie, just normal things that we don’t get to always do all the time.

15. What are you the most proud of in your life?
Being a mom. I was always told you won’t really understand true love until you have children, and it’s so true. There is nothing else that can equate to it. It’s a completely different kind of love.
